He studied organ with Bert Matter and church music at the Arnhem Conservatory (Netherlands), later expanding his training with Gustav Leonhardt, Marie-Claire Alain, and Jan Raas. Until 2025, he has been an organ professor at the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg and the Amsterdam Conservatory. He is the principal organist of St. Lawrence Church in Alkmaar. He has made several recordings on the Hagerbeer/Schnitger organ of the mentioned church, receiving the German Record Critics' Award in 2013. Between 2017 and 2023, he completed the recording of Bach's complete organ works on 21 CDs. He is the Artistic Director of the Holland Organ Festival.
