Ismael Lagares. The Logic of Time

Ismael Lagares (Huelva, 1978) has grown in the last decade to consolidate himself as one of the authors to be reckoned with in the context of current Spanish painting. From his beginnings, first with oil and then adding ceramics, his pieces are distinguished by the exuberance of the material and the volumes of the surface, recognizable features of his style that underpin the project he is now presenting at DA2, his first major exhibition in a Spanish museum.

There are no deceptions in his work: he is an artist whose production is born from within, from the gut and the heart, a vitalism that blends enthusiasm, intuition, and determination. His is pure painting, a concrete and tangible reality that concentrates all energy in the work.

The sumptuous masses and vibrant chromatisms that characterize his language invite to be touched and even savored, overflowing the gaze to suggest a broader sensory experience. His creations are as visual as they are tactile, designed for the enjoyment of the senses.
