Eva Herrero. Call it Wasteland
From October 2026 to January 2027. DA2 Domus Artium 2002. Exhibition.
Call it Wasteland emerges from a broader investigation into the plot of land occupied by the old Carabanchel prison (Madrid), a territory marked by institutional abandonment and the persistence of neighborhood action. Through photography and archival work, the project brings together pre-existing materials and self-produced images, contributing to the creation of new layers of meaning in a territory crossed by absences and discontinuities.
In turn, through devices such as video, installation or ceramics, it explores ways of inhabiting and modes of relating to space that escape official logics of representation. The vacant lot, a central axis of the investigation, is an unregulated and transitional space that balances between wild freedom and precariousness, hosting forms of life alien to planned urbanism. Its present is marked by abandonment and coexistence with a CIE; its past remains linked to the prison it housed, and in its future, urban speculation is foreseen.
The proposal also establishes a symbolic link between the void left by the old prison and the museum itself, raising questions about the possibilities of re-signifying places and their memories.
Project selected in the III Call for support for contemporary artistic creation. Curated by: Ginés Martínez.
